It’s summer! it’s disgustingly hot! it’s time to flee to the movie theaters and watch stuff get blown up and knocked down! A LOT.

First, we have Kayleigh’s triumphant return from the wilds of Dundee where she reviewed a Scottish version of Let The Right One In. Enjoy!
GO SEE PACIFIC RIM. IT IS AWESOME. This review says it’s like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on really expensive acid. He seems to think this is a detriment. We think it’s a movie we’ll see about eleventy billion times.
Box Office Mojo chart for the summer so far. Numbers for Pacific Rim have improved since we recorded, but GO SEE IT.
Other summer blockbusters we discussed: Man of Steel (meh bordering on liked), Star Trek Into Darkness (really didn’t like), Iron Man 3 (loved), The Lone Ranger (None of us watched, we’ll tell you why!), White House Down (Die Hard in the White House, Alina liked it).
Anne Helen Petersen’s A Concise Case for Leo: The Perfect Gatsby.
I Saw The Lone Ranger So You Don’t Have To: a Native blogger explains the (many, many, many) problems with the representations of Native Americans in The Lone Ranger. Worth a read.
Kyle Kallgren’s Brows Held High review of Dead Man, and why Johnny Depp should know better.
Reel Injun: a documentary about the representation of Natives in film.
I will also note here that I was wrong about Taylor Lautner—he’s not as Native American as I thought. Sorry!
The last couple blockbusters of the summer are The Wolverine (aka This One Doesn’t Suck We Promise!) and Elysium (AKA the 1% live in spaaaaaaaace!). It’s a long hot summer, people. Stay cool.
(Yeah, we noticed there aren’t a lot of women involved in these movies, either.)
Frozen, and Alina’s favorite version of The Snow Queen (in Russian, no subtitles, but pretty!)
Snowpiercer trailer!
Spielberg and Lucas have Things to say about summer blockbusters. They are not flattering and also… really hypocritical.
Bradley Cooper and Gerard Butler at Wimbledon. They’re ADORABLE.
As a thank you for helping Hannibal get renewed for a season 2, Mads is buying us all beer. (The beer may be people. We don’t care, Mads is buying us beer.)
Reidan still doesn’t like Pushing Daisies, and Alina and Kayleigh are betrayed.
Upcoming episodes! the fall TV season looks like it’s going to be GEEKTASTIC and we want to discuss it all.
YES THE RUMORS ARE TRUE (you can tell, because we started them): WE ARE DOING AN EPISODE ON HANNIBAL WHERE WE WILL BE JOINED BY THE LOVELY CLEOLINDA.
See you next month!
